科大professor 因為 chanting 追討 科大學生會 10 萬蚊賠償!

Dear SU and SAO,

Attached are 1) my invoice for chanting-related costs (also below), and 2) my calculation of the costs of chanting to HKUST (also served to you on Saturday Feb 12, 2011). Process payment as soon as possible. Many other victims are bcced. - Peter MacKay

Invoice for Chanting-Related Costs

*Date*: February 14, 2011

*To*: Student Union (SU) of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) 4/F, Academic Building, Phase I, HKUST, Clear Water Bay, Kowloon

*From*: Peter MacKay, Associate Professor, HKUST

Pursuant to the notice served to the SU by “Victims of Chanting” on February 12, 2011, whereby continued chanting in the HKUST Atrium would constitute SU’s acceptance of the related costs, below is my invoice for such costs incurred by me, Prof. Peter MacKay, staff number xxxx29.

This activity has impeded my ability me to work, teach, learn, study, or circulate at HKUST. Time I would normally spend on my duties for HKUST (teaching, research, or service) was thus occupied by those whom you represent, time which I now bill to you. I also consider that this activity imposes other costs on our community, such as permanent hearing loss, emergency hazard, mental angst, depletion of community morale, bad public relations, bureaucratic burden, enraging future *alumni*, deterring donors, diminishing HKUST franchise value, disloyalty, etc. I therefore add a lump-sum amount that represents my personal estimated share of those costs.

Settlement in cash or to my bank account (on request) is expected by February 18, 2011. After such time, this claim will be sent to a law firm (e.g. Johnson, Stokes, and Master) for collection. I consider the SU, the Student Affairs Office (SAO), and HKUST to be jointly and severally liable for these costs through their encouragement, coordination, and facilitation of such disruptive activities on our campus despite strong objection by students, faculty, and staff, as evidenced in the survey held on this matter. Chanters chant at their own expense.

Here is my bill as of today:

*Date* Feb 8, 9, 10, 11, 14

*Hours* 10

*Hourly Rate* HKD 4,000

*HKD Total* HKD 40,000

Lump-sum cost
Per 10 hours

HKD 60,000

*Total as of Feb 14*
*HKD 100,000*
