Dear HKUST Family:
Recently an act which was disturbing took place on our campus. An individual was reported to have damaged a display set up by a group of HKUST students. I want to assure our community that such act has no place at HKUST. Regardless of personal feelings toward an issue, the freedom to express one's view is sacred at our university. Any attacks upon demonstrations, speeches, displays, etc. on campus are not to be tolerated.
The case is being investigated by the police. While we do not want to comment on the legal ramifications in the middle of the investigation, we can say that such act is viewed with alarm by the HKUST administration and will not be tolerated. We will uphold academic freedom and freedom of expression on the HKUST campus vigilantly.
Students may contact Student Affairs Office if assistance is needed.
